Kristin Nicholas grew up with 4 sisters in a house full of love of craft and family. She loves to make things with her hands. She knits, embroiders, sews, crochets, cooks, gardens, paints, and helps raise over 300 sheep on her family's farm in western Massachusetts. She painted and decorated her 1751 farmhouse in a riot of color and lives there with her husband Mark and 14 year old daughter Julia. Kristin is the author of 8 books on knitting and embroidery and writes the blog "Getting Stitched on the Farm." Her love of COLOR is the thread that ties all her work together. Her yarn - Color By Kristin - is distributed nationwide by Classic Elite Yarns. She runs classes at her farm a few times a year. You can find her colorful downloadable knitting patterns on her website and in her books.
Description
Kristin teaches Fair Isle -- a traditional color work technique where two colors are knit in one row to create a geometric pattern. Although it looks complicated, it's actually very easy to follow Kristin's step by ste instruction and the chart to make this colorful hat. You'll learn how to do an elastic cast on, knit a garter stitch band in rows, and join the knitting to work the hat in rounds. A chart is used to build the colorwork pattern, decreases shape the top of the hat and duplicate stitches add a bit more color.
